Entertainment • Shula’s 347 Grill located in Route 46 is named in honour of Hall of Fame Coach, Don Shula; the winningest coach in NFL history with 347 career victories. • Route 46 offers a complete entertainment venue in Seminole County and an exclusive look into the early 20th century automobile industry and features The Smokehouse, Monroe’s Restaurant, The Saloon Bar and for those looking for a night out Garage Bar.
Shopping • Seminole County has the largest Flea Market in America with over 1700 booths under one roof. Now that’s a lot of bargains! • Altamonte Mall offers over 180 shops, department stores and restaurants and attracts a whopping 14 million visitors annually. • Oviedo Marketplace boasts a 22 screen cinema complex, and over 200 shops and restaurants. • Seminole Towne Center situated in Sanford is an impressive 1.485-million- square- foot.

History • Seminole County was created on April 25, 1913 out of part of Orange County by the Florida Legislature. • The name "Seminole" is thought to be derived from the Spanish word cimarron, meaning "wild" or “runaway.” • From the late 1800s to 1950s, the circus traveled to Sanford by rail. It is estimated that over 1,000 elephants have graced the streets and grounds of downtown Sanford over the years. • Every city had a ‘Poor House” built on the outskirts of town. Seminole County’s, built in 1926, was affectionately called “The Old Folks Home”, which now houses the Museam of Seminole County History.
Geography • Seminole County's location between Volusia County and Orange County has made it one of the fastest growing counties in Florida. • Seminole County is currently the 12th largest county in the State of Florida according to the 2000 Census report from the U.S. Census Bureau. • Sandford is the largest city in the county in land area with 13,853 acres. • St. John’s River is 100,000 years old, has a circumference of 28 miles and encompasses and area of approximately 10,000 acres. St. John’s River is also one of only two largest rivers in the world that runs backwards flowing south -north. • Lake Jesup is one of the largest lakes in Central Florida, encompasses an area of approximately 16,000 acres (65 km²), including open water and floodplain. The lake boasts one of the longest free- standing bridges, part of the Seminole Expressway, which bisects the lake and has the highest population of alligators of any lake in Florida. Yikes!
