Reviews for Falcon Floats

| * | ME AND A FRIEND WENT TO FALCON FLOATS FOR A NICE WEEKEND GETAWAY. IT WAS A NIGHTMARE. FIRST OF ALL, THE CAMPGROUNDS-WHAT FEW THERE WERE THE MANAGER SAID WE COULDNT USE BECAUSE HE HAD PLANTED GRASS SEED. THEY WERE CRAPPY AND ONLY 100 YARDS FROM A MAJOR HIGHWAY. THE OTHERS WERE ON STONE. EVEN WITH 5 QUILTS I COULDNT SLEEP FOR ALL OF THE ROCKS. THE WAS NO PATROLING OF SECURITY. THE PEOPLE STAYING THERE WERE DRINKING AND LOUD ALL NIGHT. THE STORE HAD NO ICE OR FIREWOOD. THAT WAS THE FIRST NIGHT WE WERE THERE. THE NEXT MORNING WE WENT KYACKING. THERE WAS NO MAP OR CLEAR DIRECTIONS GIVEN TO US. THERE WAS A TREE ALMOST ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE RIVER WITH A STONG CURRENT THAT FLIPPED OUR BOAT AND TRAPPED US UNDER THE BOAT AND UNDER THE TREE. ME AND MY BEST FRIEND NEARLY DIED, WITH NO CONCERN OR APOLOGIES FROM THE STAFF. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND FALCON FLOATS TO ANYONE. THE MANAGER BECAME DEFENSIVE AND DID NOT EVEN OFFER AN APOLOGY OR OUR MONEY BACK. IT WAS AN AWFUL WEEKEND. AFTER NEARLY DYING WITH NO ONE AROUND TO HELP. WE PACKED UP AND LEFT. I GIVE FALCON FLOATS A STRAIGHT F. AND I BELIEVE THEY SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN. | Female between 26 and 55 | 05-22-06 |
| * | As an avid camper I can boast that I have literally camped all over the world. I have seen campgrounds that were less than adequate and campgrounds that were above and beyond expectation. I was searching this last week for a campground and kayak trip in Northeast Oklahoma and I came across Falcon Floats in Talaquah. This campground boast the best campsites, beauty, a general store, restrooms and showers and a swimming pool. Granted this retreat did have all of these amenities but let me tell you the facts. There was only two showers and two toilets in both the men and womens accomodations. (Beware Hot means Cold and Cold means hot) When I made the reservations I was not told that only four of the ten camping sites would be available because of "putting down grass seed", but the next morning a bus full of people were accomodated with these spots. I guess I should have had more money to offer for a rocky knoll on a makeshift boat landing. Tent stakes could not be placed in the ground because of concrete underneath the surface of the soil. No lighting was afforded to the campsites, all two of them, that was offered on this landing. Drunks were not only allowed to comb through your campsite at 1 in the morning but they were never quited the entire night. No ice, no firewood, no water was even available even if you combed through the woods. I am extremely disappoionted in this particular trip but the most deciding factor was when we were dropped off 6 miles upriver for our Kayak trip and was not instructed of the dangers that had befallen the last leg of the river. We were told of a tree falling completely across the river but we were assured that it was cut in a way that it was surely passable. Unfortunately this failure to tell the "Whole" story almost led to mine and my companions demise. We were trapped under this tree for almost 5 minutes. If we had been warned that the tree had fallen in a curve of the river where the current had already posed a threat the blockage secured our fate. I will not go back to this Falcon Float campground but I seriously would not offer it to my worst enemy. Good luck in the future Falcon Floats because you have not heard the last of the story.

| ***** | I was scanning this site and could not believe the review that I read on Falcon Floats. We have been going to Falcon Floats for the past 4 years. Prior to that we visited 3 of the other outfitters on the Illinois River. We didn't know for years that there are different sections of the river. The section that Falcon floats is the prettiest. None of the campgrounds on the river are very elaborate but of those that we visited, Falcon Floats has cleaner facilities and grounds than any of them. We were actually given a picnic table and built in grill at our sites. The showers were clean and had fiberglass shower inserts. One of the other campgrounds actually had a large concrete room with several shower heads sticking out of the wall, no privacy. One of the other campgrounds where the sites were just in an open field. It was impossible to walk between the tents because they were so close together. The man in the tent next to ours snored and it sounded like he was in our tent with us. At other camps we have waited as long as 2 hours to get our boats. The longest that we have ever waited at Falcon was 20 minutes and most of the time they are ready before we are. Falcon Floats is family run and they are always glad to see us and sooooo helpful. We won't be goin anywhere else. | Female between 26 and 55 | 05-24-06 |
| ***** | I recently stayed at Falcon Floats at their campgrounds. Each site had a picnic table and a built in grill. The grounds were very clean and the staff was friendly. They also had the cleanest bathrooms on the whole river. They went out of their way to cater to our needs. I was appalled at the two early reviews that were posted. Those people evidently didn't have the experience or the good spirit to take a boat ride. What they need to realize is that the Illinois River, however tame, is still a work of nature. It's not a ride at an amusement park. There are always risks in nature. Aside from that, my trip was extremely enjoyable. I had no problems floating on the river. I came down with friends, and someday I would like to come down with my family. It is a great atmosphere for people of all ages. I'll never go anywhere else. | Female under 25 | 05-24-06 |
| * | Well I understand that a young girl of less than twenty five years of age has so much experience in the woods that she can literally down someones elses bad experience. Granted maybe she has had so much experience in the woods because she was raised there. Hope you continue to "float along" with falcon floats. (By the way, maybe you should consider that if you didn't have to wait for the canoe trip is because (NO ONE ELSE GOES HERE) | Female between 26 and 55 | 10-19-06 |
