True to its title, Grand Illusion is the logical and incredible evolution of this conjurer’s art. David Copperfield’s goal in Grand Illusion is to take one’s dreams (and maybe a few nightmares) and make them become reality using his state of the art wizardry. “For magic to be relevant,” explains Copperfield, “it has to evolve so it keeps up with, or even surpasses, the best film and theatre. In the cinema the audience watches the characters’ dreams come true. In Grand Illusion, the audiences get to watch their dreams come true, live, before their very eyes and in three dimensions”. | * | Copperfield doesnt give a #@%$!! anymore about his fans or his career. For starters, he has gotten lazy. He's done the same show for 7 years, nothing new since than. & his shows seem to get shorter & shorter every year, yet the ticket prices get higher & higher every year. He always starts his shows late to create the illusion of a longer show, but the show itself is only 1 hour & 15 minutes (75 minutes) with 10 minutes of it being video filler, so David himself is on-stage for about an hour. He opens the show with talking about transporting himself to the other side of the planet, but doesnt deliver. & he definetely comes off as bored & tired & not wanting 2 be there. & the show is more gags than magic to kill time out of the few illusions he does manage performing. & dont bother trying to mention any of these show faults on his message board, cause it will vanish along with you account faster than you can say abracadabra. & he doesnt keep promises on his message board either, promising to answer fan questions but again, not delivering. & just like his show, his website is equally as lacking, as it was last updated in 2001, & mentions several things he supposedly does in his show, but doesnt. He doesnt even an on-line store where you can buy his merchandise. So either he needs to take at least a year or 2 off so he can rest & come up with a new show, or just retire instead of ripping off people who came expecting a good show with a short, piss-poor show.

He opens the show by talking about how he's gonna vanish himself & reappear on the other side of the planet, but does'nt deliver. The show is more gags & video than magic out of the little magic he does manage performing. He should retire, or take a couple years off 2 make a new show, or he'll just continue losing more fans by boring them & himself with the same show for 7 years. The only thing that does'nt change is the prices, they keep getting higher every year. His website is equally as lacking, as it was last updated in 2001!!! He used 2 be great & put on 2 hour shows with several grand illusions & no filler. Now its the complete opposite. He's clearly past his prime & his passion is long gone. Even as a die hard fan, I will not waist my money on this piss poor show again.

| * | It took me three full days of work to earn the money to buy tickets to this show for my husband,myself and our 8 year old son. It took David Copperfield 1 hour to perform three illusions that lacked showmanship or enthusiasm. Im at a lose to explain why a performer of this calibre can deliver so little to his fans which have made him what he is. A disgrace! | Female between 26 and 55 | 08-16-09 |
