The beaches of Fort Myers Beach, Naples and Sanibel Island are absolutely gorgeous. Fort Myers Beach is known as ""the safest beach in the world"" because of the gradual depth change with no drop offs or dangerous currents to worry about. You can literally walk out half a mile and still be touching bottom. Since we are on the Gulf of Mexico (as apposed to the Atlantic Ocean, i.e., Miami/Fort Lauderdale) we have calm waters which are teaming with dolphins and manatees. The shelling here is some of the best in the world. We are known as the shelling capital of the United States. The laid back atmosphere and friendly people give it a ""Mayberry"" type feeling.
